Just as the state of emergency was finally easing, my dad agreed to lend me his Canon EOS R6 for a little while.
Switching from the Nikon Z fc, I found more things I wanted to shoot
Until then, I’d been using a Nikon Z fc. I loved its design and carried it every day I went out. Once the EOS R6 was in my hands, the urge to take photos I’d never taken before kept growing.
Along with it, I borrowed the RF24-105mm F4 L IS USM, the RF15-35mm F2.8 L IS USM, and the RF70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM — a combination you could practically do professional work with. It was also a camera that could shoot proper video, and that’s what got me started on YouTube.

Shooting the Milky Way in Oarai with the RF15-35mm
Soon after I borrowed it, I rented a car, bought a Pro-Softon filter for the RF15-35mm, and went out to photograph the Milky Way. I didn’t know much and didn’t even have a remote release, so I can’t say the shots turned out well. Even so, when I saw the Milky Way in my photo, I was truly happy.

I packed gear heavier than anything I’d ever carried into my camera bag and often went out looking for seasonal flowers and other things I wanted to shoot. The lens that taught me the most about the joy of photography was the white lens I’d long admired, the RF70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM.
Wherever I went, this lens always went in my bag, and I used it for snapshots even though it’s a telephoto zoom.
“New Standard.”: the EOS R6’s image stabilization and high-ISO performance
Canon launched the EOS R6 under the tagline “New Standard.” On top of strong in-body image stabilization and high-ISO performance, it shoots proper video and takes two SD cards. It felt like a new benchmark for Canon’s mirrorless cameras.
Its successor, the EOS R6 Mark II, has since come out and is even more appealing.
The time has come to return the whole kit to my dad. It’s thanks to the EOS R6 and the lenses reborn for the RF mount that I came to enjoy photography so much more. The RF70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM in particular is a lens I still want to recommend to people.
